Dr. Juraj LAPIN

Position: Institute of Materials and Machine Mechanics of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, Bratislava, Slovakia, EU.

Dr. Lapin is a director of the Applied Research Centre of the Slovak Academy of Sciences and head of Division of properties of materials and structures at the Institute of Materials and Machine Mechanics of the Slovak Academy of Sciences.

He spent long-term stay at the Université catholique de Louvain in Belgium from 1992 to 1994 at the post-doc position and one year stay at the same university as an invited researcher in 1998. In 2006 he stayed as an invited professor at the Institut national polytechnique de Lorraine of the Ecole nationale supérior des mines de Nancy in France. He is an external teacher at the Engineering faculty and Faculty of Materials and Technology of the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava.

His scientific and pedagogical activities are focused on nickel, iron and titanium based intermetallic alloys, eutectic composites, nickel based superalloys, directional solidification and characterisation of microstructure and mechanical properties of materials. He was a project leader of 13 projects supported by Slovak Grant Agency for Science and Slovak Research and Developmnet Agency, work-package leader of 2 projects supported by the framework programs of EÚ, 2 COST projects and participates on 4 projects from structural funds of EU.

He is an editor-in-chief of impacted scientific journal Kovove materialy-Metallic Materials which is included in current content (CC) and member of the editorial board of the journal Acta Metallurgica Slovaca. He is author or co-author of 67 articles published in CC journals, 13 articles published in journals not included in CC, 2 chapters in books and 118 articles published on domestic and international conferences.

He was a member of several program committees, e.g. 11th International Symposium on Physics of Materials, 12th International Symposium on Physics of Materials and Third International Conference on Advances in Solidification Processes. He is a referee of several scientific journals, e.g. Intermetallics, Journal of Alloys and Compounds, Material Characterisation, Acta Materialia, Philosophical Magazine Letters, Journal of Materials Science and Journal of Materials Research.
